Its rarity gives its value of around US$1 million at the time the 'Million Dollar Guns' episode of History Channel 's ' Tales of the Gun ' was filmed, 27 recheck by Guns & Ammo as of 1994.

The 1940 is the manufacturing date. The 42 is the code for Mauser. They are who made your gun. 6434 is the serial number, and there should be a lower case letter, in cursive, underneath the SN, at least on the one on the bottom of the frame. The 34 on all the small parts means all matching numbers, which is always a good thing, value-wise. This Mauser is a standard army issue of 1940. The serial number is 4588 K. The pistol is all matched serial numbered. The magazines are correct bakelite bottom magazines, however they did not come out until a year latter. The correct magazines should be aluminum bottom magazines serial numbered to the pistol.
Just before the turn of the 20th century, Georg Luger re-designed Borchardt semi-automatic pistol so that its mainspring was housed in rear of grip. Resulting pistol was to prove extremely successful and his name has become synonymous with the pistol despite the fact his name never appeared on it.&break;&break;These companies manufactured Luger pattern pistols at various times.&break;&break;1. WW2 DWM Rework P08 (Luger) | 9mm, made as a commercial Luger in the 1920-1930 period, then overhauled and marked in the National Socialist period by the Magdeburg Depot (Eagle/Mg10) for issue to the Wehrmacht, frame a few thousand sn's off for some reason with same last two '28', the rest all match except magazine, no sn on extractor or ejector. | Bluing about an 85% dull, has some holster wear, bore GD, Crown/N proofed and then National Socialist Firing Proof on toggle, frame, barrel, slide. Also marked S/42 on barrel and E/Mg10 on frame and barrel (so they were all matched up at depot). Grips numbered to gun inside. Toggle also marked 'DWM' | An odd one, vet bring-back, non-import, tight action; if this thing could talk! Commercial - Depot Overhaul - Wehrmacht - Captured and brought home by returning GI.
